Routines and Transitions

One of the reasons that I love Mother Goose Time is that wonderful individuals that make up this company are constantly tweaking, redesigning, and creating new tools to better improve the learning experiences for students, as well as the teaching experience for us teachers!

One of the ways that this is represented was in this nifty little Free Resource kit that was included in October’s Weather All Around Us box.

Most kids, and definitely mine included, struggle when it comes to transitioning from one task to another. This is usually when the whines and fits come in around my house. I approach a transition too quickly, not giving my kids a moment to finish their given tasks, it doesn’t go well. The same also doesn’t work when I give my kids too much time to finish said given task, and this mama gets grumpy waiting for her kids.

With these helpful suggestions, and really cute little songs, it helps create a routine for transitions that will help the kids know what to expect, and add some fun into the mix.

And these subject cards help the kids know what activities we’ll be doing that day (obviously we don’t cover all of these on any given day, so I would just pull out what their choices are for that day). This helps the kids to know that we can’t spend all day in art, no matter how much they would LOVE that, but it also lets them know that they won’t be spending all day in other, less enjoyed subjects.

And honestly, it helps me to stay on task as well and meet the goals we want to meet for the day or week.

Weather All Around Us

October’s Mother Goose Time theme is Weather All Around Us, and it couldn’t be more timely.

With the crazy weather that has been hitting the past few months in the States and Islands in the Atlantic Ocean, storms have been one of the main topics of conversation. We had family come stay with us while Irma hit Florida and Georgia, and into the northern states, and we’ve been heavyhearted as friends’ loved ones have been affected by the devastation in Puerto Rico. Even at this age, we want our kids to be aware of the world around them and that even though we may not feel the direct impact of these storms, our God cares for each and every one of the individuals that does, and as His body we want to be part of the healing and restoration process.

I’m thankful when our curriculum really does seem to lend itself to what is already happening in our lives and can just foster those conversations and make deeper impacts with my kids. I believe that is where true learning is going to take place, instead of just trying to memorize facts or store away information for the future.

And can i just say that I really do love the new design for the Teacher’s guide!

And how adorable is this kid right here?

Love that we will be discussing life cycles as well as seasons during lessons 6-10!

I can see lots of leaf activities in our future!

And of course, wrapping it up with storms. So appropriate!

I realized I haven’t pointed out this tool in a little while, so I wanted to include it again. This is SO helpful! On top of the usual supplies that are recommended to keep on-hand (see picture below), the nice people at Mother Goose Time are so gracious to let us know what other materials we may need for each given lesson. Most of the supplies are provided, let me remind you, so the gathering list is super minimal. But I appreciate the quick reference without having to flip through each lesson in the Teacher Guides.

AND look at this calendar!!! LOVE!

Be Brave

October is here and we are SO excited that it is fall! Well, at least I am. My daughter has told me on more than one account that shes’ a little tired of how excited I am about fall. But I cannot help it! I just love this season!

(I can hear Olaf in my head. “I love all things fall,  and wind, and all things cold-ish!)

So now that it’s October, we will be reading about the story of Esther for Peter’s Bible curriculum, Mother Goose Time‘s Experience God! The theme is “Be Brave” and I know my daughter will be excited, as Esther is one of her favorite book of the Bible by far! So I wanted to show you some of the cute materials we got to help as we investigate what God wants to teach us about Himself this month through the book of Esther!

This is our memory verse poster, which we normally put on our Circle Time Board to reference throughout the month. (But as it turns out, we haven’t been utilizing our Circle Time Board as much as we used to when my daughter was younger and we were using Mother Goose Time. So I’m thinking we will hang this in my son’s room where we can look at it daily.)

This is the lesson book that has our daily activities for the four weeks of October. These are great conversation starters and have some cute activities as well.

These are our story cards, which breaks down the main points of the book of Esther into four main parts, one for each week.

The weekly lesson is printed on the back so that I can hold up the picture to show the kids while I’m reading. And there are cute, interactive prompts to the storytelling be a little more dynamic.

These are the main crafts that we’ll complete as we discuss the weekly lesson. My favorite this month is the coloring book included in week 4.

This is so cute! I love it!

I love introducing and reinforcing these vocabulary terms. I can already envision our conversations about boldness, what it looks like to be bold for Christ, what we do when we don’t feel very bold or brave, etc.

It’s a sign of great curriculum that not only provides great content, but also inspires the teacher to personalize their lessons for their students.

Looking forward to sharing more pictures and our experience with Experience God this month!
